Mutulu Shakur was an American activist and Black Liberation Army member who went to prison for masterminding a deadly 1981 armored car robbery and racketeering conspiracy. He was also widely known as the stepfather of the late rapper Tupac Shakur. Born Jeral Wayne Williams on August 8, 1950, Shakur dedicated his life to Black nationalism, community health, and the New Afrikan Independence Movement. He passed away on July 7, 2023, shortly after being released from federal prison due to terminal cancer.
