Charles Harrelson, the father of actor Woody Harrelson, was a hitman and organized crime figure. He was convicted of assassinating federal judge John H. Wood Jr. who was known as "Maximum John" for his harsh sentencing practices.

Judge Wood was the first federal judge assassinated in the 20th century and at the time, his murder was the second largest federal investigation in U.S. history.

Harrelson also had a prior murder conviction and was acquitted of another killing. He was suspected by the Texas Rangers of having committed over twenty murders and had also claimed involvement in the JFK assassination plot.

Over the years, many have come to believe that Harrelson was one of the notorious "three tramps" photographed and arrested in the wake of the Kennedy assasination.

In 1995 along with two other inmates, Harrelson escaped from the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary and surrendered after shots were fired. He was then transferred to the Supermax in Florence, Colorado where he later died of a heart attack on March 25, 2007.

Two page handwritten letter dated August 2006 and signed at the close, Au revoir.
Includes an original prison issued envelope postmarked August 2006 completely written by Woody's dad and hand signed, Charles V. Harrelson.

The date on the letter and the postmark on the envelope do not match. This is how we received it. The person to whom the letter was written was in regular contact with Harrelson and likely mixed up this set.
