Jerome Henry Brudos aka “The Shoe Fetish Slayer” was an American serial killer born on January 31, 1939, in South Dakota and who died in an Oregon prison on March 28, 2006. Brudos was known as the “Lust Killer” and was convicted of murdering several women in the late 1960’s. Brudos had a foot fetish dating back to when he was a child. When he was 5 years old, his mother caught him wearing high heel shoes that he found in a junkyard. This evolved into Brudos breaking into neighbor’s homes and stealing women’s underwear. When Jerry was in high school, he threatened a girl at knife point forcing her to take off her clothes while he photographed her. Despite being sent to the Oregon State Hospital psychiatric ward, he was allowed to attend high school. In 1967 Brudos assaulted a woman. Later that year he followed a woman home because he liked her shoes, breaking into her home that night where he raped her before stealing her shoes. In 1968 Brudos murdered a woman who came to his door selling encyclopedias. He strangled her to death and kept her body for a short while dressing her in women’s underwear. Jerry removed one of her feet before dumping her body. In November 1968 he came upon a woman whose car had broken down and offered to help. Instead, he strangled her and had sex with her corpse. He took the body to his shop where he dressed her and photographed her before dumping her body. In 1969 Brudos abducted a 19-year-old college student who he strangled before taking home and raping her, removing one of her breasts. A month later he kidnapped another woman from a shopping center who he also strangled to death before taking her home and having sex with the corpse. Her body was eventually found in the Long Tom River weighted down by an automobile engine. Students at Oregon State University described Brudos to police and Brudos was apprehended when one of the college girls agreed to go out with him but ultimately found police waiting for him when he arrived. Police obtained a search warrant for his home and discovered a ton of evidence against him. Brudos confessed to 4 murders along with several assaults and abductions. His wife Darcie was also arrested and later acquitted. Brudos was convicted of three murders and sentenced to three life sentences. At the time of his death, Brudos was the longest incarcerated inmate in the Oregon Department of Corrections.
