Steven Avery is a convicted American murderer who was wrongfully convicted of a 1985 sexual assault and attempted murder. Avery was released after serving 18 years of a 32 year sentence and exonerated in 2003 by DNA testing.  In November 2005, Avery was arrested for the murder of Teresa Halbach.  He was convicted of the Halbach murder and sentence to life in prison.  Avery's nephew was also convicted of the Halbach murder and in 2015 the Netflix documentary "Making A Murderer" brought national attention to the case.
