Aileen Wuornos (1956–2002) was an American serial killer who murdered seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990 while working as a prostitute. Often dubbed the first modern female serial killer, she claimed the killings were in self-defense against rape, though she later retracted this, receiving multiple death sentences and being executed via lethal injection in 2002.
