David Berkowitz (born 1953), infamously known as the “Son of Sam” and the “.44 Caliber Killer,” terrorized New York City between 1976 and 1977 with a series of shootings that killed six people and wounded several others. Berkowitz taunted police and the media with disturbing letters during one of the largest manhunts in New York history before his arrest in 1977. His crimes became one of the most infamous serial murder cases in American history.
